Every two years, our “World of Fireplaces” (WOF) trade fair takes place in Leipzig. Representatives from across the entire value chain come together at this three-day international trade fair for fireplaces and comfortable atmospheres. Admission is restricted to trade visitors only.

The WOF was launched at the request of European manufacturers of heating appliances – such as wood-burning stoves, pellet stoves, tiled stoves, insert stoves and decorative fireplaces – as well as suppliers and service providers, to create a truly unique and international trade fair format. True to the motto ‘By the industry, for the industry’, the WOF is both a lifestyle and climate fair. It showcases innovations and trends relating to the heating transition, presents market-ready solutions for an independent heat supply, provides inspiration and fosters discussion between trade visitors, tradespeople and industry. At the Fireplace Hub, speakers provide insights into industry trends and innovations. Decision-makers from business, politics and trade associations are also in attendance. Panels of experts discuss innovative concepts, new developments and climate policy issues. The fair thus not only offers trade visitors a comprehensive range of information and services, but also addresses the political landscape and the general public with the message: “Wood energy is a pillar of renewable heat supply.”

The market for fireplaces is booming: one in four households has a fireplace or tiled stove. This means that one in eight German citizens uses what is known as a single-room fireplace. The main reasons why heating with wood remains popular in Germany – particularly in the context of the energy crisis – are: an independent heat supply using wood, a regrowth raw material available regionally, which can replace expensive electricity at peak times and buffer the rising costs of gas and oil. Furthermore, the energy stored in wood is accessible at any time and can be stored. Accounting for two-thirds of the total, wood is – alongside wind and solar power – the most important form of renewable energy in the heating market. Without wood energy, therefore, just five per cent of heating demand would be met by renewable energy sources. Furthermore, with its 300-year history of forest management, Germany is one of the most densely forested countries in Europe with the largest timber reserves.
