The standardisation of mechanical safety specifies requirements for the protection of persons against mechanical hazards. This includes, for example, reaching into moving parts such as mixers or electric kitchen knives, or the risk of pinching, crushing or shearing caused by the lid of a cooking kettle slamming shut. In order to rule this out, specifications are written in specific parts of the DIN EN 60335 series of standards for household and similar electrical appliances.
