Over recent decades, EU legislation has gained steadily in importance. Today, many political frameworks – particularly in areas such as environment, climate policy, the internal market and data protection – are largely shaped in Brussels, leaving national legislation with increasingly limited scope. A strong presence in Brussels is therefore essential for effective representation of the interests of HKI member companies.

With continuous access to key decision-makers in the European Parliament, the European Commission and leading industry associations, HKI actively shapes EU policy in areas such as environment, climate, the internal market and data protection. Members benefit from early intelligence, strategic guidance and advocacy that is coordinated, effective, and directly aligned with their business interests.

Through strong partnerships with European umbrella organisations, including BDI, ZVEI, Bioenergy Europe and Orgalim, HKI helps members build influence, align positions with other industry leaders and ensure their priorities are heard at the highest level.

Since establishing its own Brussels office in 2009, HKI has been strengthening the European representation of its 230 member companies, helping them navigate EU policy, mitigate regulatory risks, and seize opportunities across Europe.
